Appearance and pile
Compare real samples for colour, density, feel and how the fibres recover. A taller pile is not automatically the most practical choice for every garden.
ARTIFICIAL LAWN DESIGN · PREPARATION · INSTALLATION
Plan a lawn area that suits the way you use your garden. Landscape Gardener of Kent installs artificial grass in Birchington-on-Sea, considering the product, supporting base, drainage, joins and edges as one project.
Whether you want to replace a worn lawn or include artificial grass within a garden makeover, send photographs, approximate dimensions and your postcode. We can discuss suitable options and provide a free, no-obligation installation quotation.

Start with its use: an open garden area, a place for pets, a route through a small courtyard or a lawn alongside a patio. Mark furniture, play areas, retained planting and the access to gates or storage.
Artificial grass removes mowing from the routine, but it is not a living lawn and still needs care. Compare it with improving the existing lawn or laying new natural turf before deciding which approach meets your priorities.
Tell us about regular pet use, shade and any waterlogging. These details affect the product and installation brief more than choosing a pile height from a shopping listing.
A sheltered Birchington courtyard and an open garden towards Minnis Bay can have different exposure, sun and access conditions. Show the actual layout rather than assume a coastal address establishes the drainage or ground construction.
Look at samples where the grass will be installed, alongside paving and planting. Consider the view from the house and where people enter the lawn. Product colour and pile direction can change its appearance across the area.
If fencing, paving or levels are also changing, agree them before the lawn is finished. Later excavation and deliveries can disturb a newly prepared surface.
Compare real samples for colour, density, feel and how the fibres recover. A taller pile is not automatically the most practical choice for every garden.
Check the selected product’s drainage information and how it works with the base beneath it. Drainage through the grass is only part of the solution.
Read the named product’s cleaning instructions and warranty conditions. A product warranty is different from the terms for installation workmanship.
Agree the exact grass and installation system before ordering. We do not transfer a competitor’s warranty or brand accreditation to our own service.
Assess the current lawn or surface, soil, levels and access before specifying removal and supporting layers. Simply covering soft or uneven ground can leave movement and ponding unresolved.
The proposed construction should provide suitable support, a finished level and an appropriate route for water. Membranes, edging and any additional drainage need a defined role within the installation rather than being assumed identical for every garden.
Include the finish at doors, paths, beds and retained covers. Agree what will be removed, what stays and how waste and materials can pass through the property.
Artificial grass does not automatically solve a waterlogged garden. Water passing through the backing still needs somewhere to go below it. Ground conditions and the supporting construction affect that route.
Photograph wet areas after rain and show adjoining paving, downpipes and low spots. A drainage proposal should identify how water is managed without directing it towards the house or neighbouring property.
If the existing lawn fails because of shade, compaction or drainage, discuss those causes before selecting a replacement surface. They can influence both natural-lawn improvements and artificial-grass installation.
Measure the whole area, including narrow sections and curves. Roll widths and pile direction affect the cutting plan, joins and amount of material ordered. The purchased area can exceed the finished lawn area.
Agree where joins will fall and how the grass will be fixed at the perimeter. Consider the view from the house, the transition to paving and the edge beside planting.
A small leftover strip is not always suitable for another section if its pile direction differs. Discuss the cutting layout before comparing material quantities between quotations.
The installed total includes more than the roll. Area, grass specification, removal, supporting construction, drainage, access, joining and edging all affect the quotation.
For a calculation example, a 4m by 5m area is 20m². A hypothetical complete installed rate of £80 per m² would give an area-based subtotal of £1,600. This is arithmetic, not our tariff or a current market average. Check the full scope and any separate charges.
Send measurements and photographs for a free artificial lawn quotation. Include access and pet-use details.
Width alone does not determine the price. You also need the length, product and whether the seller prices by square metre, linear metre or a complete roll.
A piece 4m wide and 5m long covers 20m². At a hypothetical supply price of £20 per m², the grass would cost £400 before delivery and other materials. If priced at £80 per linear metre of a 4m-wide roll, five linear metres also gives £400. These are calculation examples, not current product prices.
Confirm cutting allowances, minimum order quantities, delivery and VAT. A roll-only total excludes the fitted base, edges, joins and installation labour.
Artificial grass needs cleaning and eventual replacement. Leaves and debris can accumulate, weeds can establish at the surface, and pet use requires a suitable cleaning routine. Lower maintenance does not mean no maintenance.
Surface temperature can rise in sunshine, and product performance varies. Consider the location and intended use, especially barefoot play, then check the named product’s guidance.
It replaces living ground cover and does not provide the same habitat as a natural lawn. Consider retaining planted borders or choosing a natural-lawn improvement where that better meets your garden priorities. Artificial material also needs an appropriate disposal route when replaced.
If dogs regularly use the area, specify that from the start. Compare suitable backing and drainage characteristics with the construction beneath the grass. A product described as pet-friendly still needs cleaning.
Remove solid waste promptly and follow the supplier’s advice for rinsing and compatible cleaning products. Avoid assuming a general disinfectant or aggressive treatment is suitable for every grass.
Trulawn’s pet-use aftercare guidance illustrates why cleanliness and drainage remain part of the routine. Agree the instructions for your selected product at handover.
There is no reliable universal answer for an individual property. Buyers have different preferences: some value reduced mowing, while others prefer a living lawn. The overall garden layout, condition and quality of installation also influence how the space is received.
Do not treat installation as a guaranteed increase or decrease in resale value. If selling soon, ask a local estate agent for advice about your property and likely buyers before making the decision.
For a garden you plan to use, compare the practical benefits, care and replacement requirements with your own priorities.
Our Canterbury porcelain patio and artificial lawn and Herne Bay garden transformation show artificial grass alongside paving and boundaries.
These genuine photographs are labelled with their actual locations. Use them to discuss layout and appearance; your Birchington garden needs its own assessment of levels, support and drainage.
The total depends on the area, product, removal, base, drainage, access, joins and edges. Compare complete installation quotations rather than supply-only prices.
You need its length and pricing basis. A 4m by 5m piece covers 20m². Confirm the product, cutting allowance, delivery and VAT; the roll price excludes fitting and preparation.
It needs cleaning and eventual replacement, can become warm in sunshine, and does not provide the same living habitat as natural turf. Pet use and drainage need planning.
No universal effect can be promised. Buyer preferences, garden condition and installation quality vary. Seek property-specific estate-agent advice if resale is the main concern.
Assess removal and supporting construction first. Covering uneven or soft ground directly can leave the underlying problems unresolved.
Not automatically. Water needs a suitable route through and beneath the surface. Assess the ground and drainage before installing.
Discuss regular pet use when choosing the product and base. Appropriate drainage and a compatible cleaning routine remain necessary.
The area’s shape, available roll widths and pile direction determine the cutting plan. Agree join locations and purchased quantities before ordering.
No. Remove debris and follow the selected grass’s cleaning and pet-care instructions. Edges, joints and drainage should also be kept in good condition.
Send your postcode, measurements and photographs of the current area, access, wet patches and adjoining paving. Mention pets, intended use and preferred grass.
