Assess ground before covering the work area

Photograph existing surfaces, soft areas and water remaining after rain. Agree clearance, appropriate support and final levels before fitting. Laying a roll over unprepared soil does not describe the same work as a complete suitable installation.

Water passing through the backing still needs somewhere appropriate to go beneath it. Include the junctions with paths, beds and covers. The visible grass alone cannot establish that an underlying support or drainage cause has been resolved.

Calculate product from widths, shape and joins

A 4m-wide roll needs the actual product and required length specified. Pile direction, obstacles, curves and cuts affect join placement and waste. Measure separate areas rather than assuming the visible lawn footprint alone determines purchased quantity.

Agree joining and perimeter fixing details before ordering. Keep required access to covers and plan transitions to paving or planting. A useful laying scope explains the finished appearance and how the material is held, not only which roll is supplied.

Compare fitted cost and natural-lawn alternatives

Supplier prices can omit removal, support, edges, joins, labour and waste. Ask for equivalent complete scopes with cutting allowance, delivery, access, VAT and actual product terms clear. An inexpensive supplied roll is a different comparison from a fitted lawn system.

Artificial grass avoids mowing that area but still needs debris removal, suitable cleaning and inspection. For pets, discuss hygiene and cleaning-water routes. Natural turf has different establishment and care needs; compare both with the use, appearance and preference for a living surface.
