Landscape Gardener of Kent installs resin driveways in Whitstable, planning the base, drainage, edging and entrance layout alongside the aggregate finish. We can discuss a replacement drive or assess whether your existing construction is suitable for an overlay.
Share your postcode, approximate dimensions and photographs of the current driveway for a free, no-obligation quote. Include any connecting path you would like resurfaced.
Aggregate is mixed with resin before the mixture is laid and trowelled. The resulting finish has spaces between the coated stones through which water can pass.
Aggregate is scattered onto resin applied to the base. It produces a different surface texture and does not offer the same through-drainage as resin-bound construction.
The names are sometimes used interchangeably in advertising, so ask for the actual system in writing. A permeable resin-bound finish also needs a compatible base and a plan for the water beneath it.
Resin can be considered over suitable asphalt or concrete, but the condition and compatibility of the retained construction need checking first. Movement, loose areas, cracks and puddles may indicate work is needed below the surface.
Adding a finish raises the driveway level. Check the proposed junctions at the pavement, garage, doorstep and access covers, together with the edges of any retained paths. An overlay that leaves awkward levels may be unsuitable even if the existing surface looks sound.
For a Whitstable entrance with limited frontage or side access, show us the available working route and any features that must stay. Photographs of the whole entrance and close-ups of damaged areas help establish what needs assessment.
Set out where vehicles park and where people walk when the driveway is occupied. Consider door openings, bins, gates and access to the house. If the path uses the same resin finish, include its area and edge details in the quotation.
Choose the drainage arrangement before choosing the stone blend. Water passing through the top layer still needs a suitable route through or away from the supporting construction. Site conditions determine whether infiltration is appropriate or a different arrangement is required.
Borders define the finish and its connection to adjacent paving, planting or walls. Inspection covers need to remain accessible. Ask how these details will be finished rather than treating them as optional extras after laying starts.
Our Whitstable driveway guide explains front-garden paving permissions and separate dropped-kerb requirements. Choosing resin does not automatically establish permission for every property or access change.
A price for applying resin over a suitable retained base is different from a price for removing and rebuilding the driveway. The measured area, access, excavation, disposal, base repairs, drainage and border design all affect the complete installed cost in Whitstable.
Ask for a quotation that identifies:
Compare the complete scope before comparing a headline price per square metre. Send dimensions and photographs to begin a quote for your property.
Look at aggregate samples outdoors beside the house and proposed edging. Ask whether the specified binder is UV stable, particularly when colour consistency is part of your decision. A photograph of a finished drive does not identify the resin used.
Confirm that the system is specified for vehicle use, including its supporting layers. Slopes, turning areas and pedestrian routes should be considered with the installer rather than choosing purely on colour.
A bound finish keeps aggregate fixed in place, but it still needs care. Sweep away leaves and dirt, keep drainage clear and follow the installed product’s cleaning instructions. Discuss stain treatment and any permitted pressure-washing method before using chemicals or aggressive equipment.
Resin surfacing needs a suitable base and appropriate installation conditions. Covering movement or unresolved drainage does not correct the cause. The chosen product’s curing period also affects when the entrance can reopen.
Local repairs may be visible against an older finish, so ask how damage would be addressed. Service life depends on the system, preparation, traffic and care; an advertised lifespan or guarantee should not be assumed to apply to every installation.
If you are comparing resin with blocks, tarmac or loose stone, use the links below to assess their different upkeep and construction requirements.
Arrange alternative parking for the agreed programme. Surface laying is only one stage of the job; ground preparation and curing also need time.
The area and complete installation scope determine the price. An overlay on a suitable base and a full replacement include different work. Compare clearance, supporting construction, drainage, borders and the specified resin system in each quote.
Base suitability and installation conditions are important, repairs may be visible, and the surface still needs cleaning. Resin-bound permeability depends on the full construction and water-management arrangement, rather than the visible finish alone.
Preparation, the selected system, installation, vehicle use and maintenance affect service life. Ask about expected performance and any written guarantee for the system proposed for your driveway. There is no single lifespan that applies to every resin installation.
A conventional resin-bound driveway is made from a specified mixture of aggregate and resin laid on a suitable supporting construction. Pouring resin onto loose gravel is not equivalent. The existing drive needs assessment before an installation method is agreed.
Water can pass through a correctly specified resin-bound finish, but the layers beneath it and the site drainage must also accommodate that water. Resin-bonded surfacing is different. Confirm the complete construction in the quotation.
Individual blocks should not be assumed to provide a stable, compatible base for a conventional resin overlay. Assessment may establish that removal and a different supporting construction are needed. Ask which layers are proposed rather than assuming they can stay.
Follow the installer’s instructions for the selected product and conditions. Curing times can vary, so alternative parking needs to cover the agreed restriction period. A finish feeling firm is not confirmation that it is ready for vehicles.
