Landscape Gardener of Kent supplies and fits artificial grass in Aylesford, for garden lawn replacements and complete landscaping projects. A finished lawn depends on more than its colour: we assess the ground, access, drainage and surrounding levels before specifying the base and fitting. Your quote should explain the preparation and installation as well as the selected grass.
Send your postcode, approximate dimensions and photographs for a free, no-obligation quote. Tell us about pets, existing drainage concerns and features you want to retain.
Consider how you move between the house, seating area, shed and garden gate. A lawn can sit alongside paved routes and planted beds rather than covering every available space. Mark the areas used for play, seating and pets, and explain which parts of your current garden you want to retain. Artificial grass reduces mowing, but still needs cleaning and brushing.
For an Aylesford garden where the lawn meets a patio, side passage or planted corner, plan the walking route before deciding the grass outline. Send a wide photograph from the house and another from the far boundary, plus close-ups of paving edges, trees and inspection covers. A narrow access route affects moving base materials and waste; retained features affect where seams and secure edges can go. Discuss how the grass meets patio paving and decking before finalising the shape, levels and edging.
If you prefer a living lawn and can provide its care, compare natural turf installation in Aylesford before deciding.
Before fitting, assess what lies below the existing lawn and where the ground is soft, uneven or wet. Clearance and excavation create space for the specified base; compacted supporting layers provide the surface on which the grass will sit. Artificial grass should not simply be rolled over an existing lawn or untreated soil for a permanent garden installation. Vegetation, soft patches and uneven levels need suitable preparation; covering them leaves the underlying problems in place.
Ask for the base materials, compaction, levels and edge restraint to be described in the quote. Any separation or weed-control membrane should be part of a suitable construction for the site. It cannot stabilise soft ground by itself or prevent seeds from growing in debris on top of the finished lawn.
Photograph dips, exposed roots and areas where water collects. These may need further investigation before the surface is fitted.
Perforated grass backing is only one part of drainage. Water must also pass through or be managed by the supporting layers and the ground beneath. If your Aylesford lawn stays wet after rain, show us where water collects and whether adjoining paths or paving direct runoff onto it. Existing drainage problems need assessment before the lawn is covered.
Coordinate the lawn height with doorsteps, paths and raised beds, and keep required inspection points accessible. Additional drainage should be identified in the scope where needed. Fitting grass over paving does not improve drainage through an unsuitable existing base.
Compare samples in daylight and in the position where the lawn will be used. Consider colour, feel, density and the manufacturer’s intended use, rather than choosing by pile height alone. Ask how the chosen product should be brushed and cleaned.
Measure the widest points and include curves, trees and retained paths. Available roll widths influence the number of seams and the amount of cutting waste. Plan consistent pile direction, joint positions and secure perimeter fixing before the grass is ordered.
Ask which product is included and what warranty terms apply. A generic description such as realistic grass does not establish the specification.
Tell us whether dogs use the garden for toileting and where the busiest areas are. Access to water, drainage and a suitable cleaning routine matter as much as the product label. Explain any digging or heavily worn patches when sharing site photographs.
Remove solid waste promptly and use rinsing and cleaning methods compatible with the selected grass. A pet-friendly installation still needs upkeep; it cannot promise to eliminate odours or prevent digging. If the area is mainly for children’s play, describe the intended use so any required safety specification can be discussed.
The installed price depends on what needs to happen before the grass can be laid. A small lawn with several curves and retained features can require a different roll layout from a simple rectangle of the same area. Replacement of an old synthetic lawn also needs assessment of the retained base; its condition cannot be established from the grass above it. Include photographs of the access route: steps, narrow gates and a long carry affect how materials and waste can be moved. The grass specification, roll layout, edges and retained features also influence the quote.
Compare supply-and-fit quotations covering:
Confirm whether a material price is per square metre or per linear metre of a stated roll width. Ask for preparation and fitting to be included explicitly. Directory averages are useful context, but do not establish a price for your measured garden.
A local supplier’s roll price and a contractor’s fitted-lawn price cover different work. For your Aylesford project, decide whether you need grass only, an existing synthetic lawn replaced or the full removal and preparation of a natural lawn. Ask what is retained and what will be rebuilt.
For supply and fitting, agree the named product, cut layout, disposal, base, drainage and perimeter detail in writing. If you have already bought grass, share the product information, roll sizes and site measurements so suitability and the fitting scope can be assessed.
A 4m-wide roll cut to a length of 5m contains 20m² of grass. If priced per square metre, multiply the unit price by 20; if priced per linear metre for that 4m width, multiply by 5. Check VAT, delivery and cutting allowances.
For example, a rectangular 3m by 5m lawn has a finished area of 15m². If a single 4m-wide cut of 5m is chosen, the order contains 20m² before trimming. Other available widths or layouts may give a different material quantity. Ask for the proposed cut plan rather than applying a standard waste percentage to every garden. Your garden may need more material than its finished lawn area because of shape, offcuts and pile direction. The roll calculation is a material comparison, not a supply-and-fit quote.
Show the route for materials through the garden, including steps and narrow passages. Access and the amount of preparation affect the programme.
Balance reduced mowing against cleaning, wear and eventual replacement. Artificial grass is a synthetic surface and does not support the same living habitat as a natural lawn. Keep space for planted borders and compare natural turf when deciding how much of the garden to cover.
Sun exposure matters, particularly where children or pets spend time: artificial grass can become warm in direct sunshine. Discuss the selected product’s guidance and shade options. Remove fallen leaves and other debris so it does not collect on the surface, brush as directed and use compatible cleaning products.
Discuss stain removal, wear, replacement and eventual disposal before choosing. No mowing does not mean no maintenance.
Area, product, clearance, supporting construction, drainage, access and joining determine the total. Compare complete supply-and-fit quotes for the same scope rather than the price of the grass alone.
It still needs cleaning, can warm in sunshine and will eventually need replacement. It is not living planting and does not provide the same habitat as natural grass. Compare those trade-offs with the appearance and upkeep you want.
A stable prepared base specified for the ground, product and intended use. Supporting materials, compaction, drainage and any membrane or separation layers should be identified in the quotation. Simply covering soft soil does not resolve its condition.
For a permanent garden installation, do not simply cover untreated soil or the old lawn. The ground needs suitable clearance, levels, support, compaction, drainage and secure edges. A membrane alone cannot provide a stable base. The construction should suit the site and selected grass.
Possibly, where the retained surface, levels and drainage suit the proposed system. Assessment is needed first. Covering paving does not change the way its underlying construction manages water.
It cannot guarantee either. Seeds can establish in collected debris, and a pet lawn needs appropriate drainage and cleaning. Discuss the complete construction and care requirements for the chosen product.
The product, cut length and pricing unit determine the material cost. A 4m-wide cut that is 5m long contains 20m²: multiply a square-metre price by 20, or a linear-metre price for that width by 5. Check VAT and delivery. Ground preparation and installation are additional unless explicitly included.
